iPhone stupidity
Tuesday, October 12, 2010
It's not just Windows Mobile that's bad. The iPhone is pretty stupid sometimes too... I got an email a few days ago, and when I opened it, it didn't display any of the text in the message and showed this instead. And it just kept spinning and never downloaded it... though that part may be AT&T's fault.
One of the most frustrating bugs has to do with the shake-to-undo feature. If you're typing in a text field and you shake the phone, it asks you to undo. It's great except when it doesn't work, as shown in the screenshot below. Sometimes, the dialog shows up below the keyboard, so the "Cancel" button on the dialog is completely covered. The only button you can press is undo, which undoes your typing even if you didn't mean to shake the phone:
The keyboard at this point responds to touch, as in the buttons will click when you press them, but none of the buttons other than prev/next actually have any effect. The "Done" button doesn't do anything either. Rotating the phone into landscape still keeps the cancel button covered up... so the only way to get out of this is to hit undo. Sigh.
